Project Summary
Local Growth Fund investment of £69,711 has been used to construct a new indoor facility that offers nature and environment related activities.
The Discovery Den, situated at Hengistbury Head, is an accessible structure built from two clad shipping containers with a connecting covered deck area. The building is a secure and sheltered meeting point for Kingston Maurward College to run activities and events, allowing introductions to staff and activities to take place in a more structured way.
This facility complements BCP Council's Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre. BCP Council manage and maintain the building, and will run sessions for primary and secondary groups (and other paid activities). Kingston Maurward College will provide staffing, additional expertise and financial income based upon government funded courses that would run at the room.
The Discovery Den...
- Provides housing for technical equipment and resources which offer engaging, original and inspirational activities involving the use of augmented reality – available to all visitors
- Provides a secure and dedicated space for storing materials, exhibits, equipment and attendees’ personal items
- Provides shelter and lunchtime space for groups visiting all day
- Provides an alternative space for activities should weather affect the planned programme
