The transport links for Dorset allow for easy access to markets via:
The region’s Road Network which is receiving heavy investment.
The Rail Network connects Dorset to the rest of the UK, London Waterloo being within 2 hours travelling time.
Bournemouth Airport is receiving major investment for key infrastructure developments from the Dorset LEP, and offers domestic and international flights to major cities within the UK and Europe with some worldwide destinations.
There are also 3 commercial ports:
- Portland Port
- Port of Poole
- Weymouth Port
The transport connections to and around Dorset make the county an excellent gateway to the rest of the UK, Europe and beyond.
Expanding the Ports to take larger vessels and more frequent sailings will allow both an increase in people and freight without hampering the use of roads. This is to be coupled with an increased capacity at the Airport and surrounding roads. This will tie in with the creation of a Tourist Academy which chimes with the work of Dorset LEP.
