Project Summary
Local Growth Funding contributed to the carrying out of essential and urgent repair works to the pier structure to unlock the economic potential of Swanage Pier and enabling the Swanage Pier Trust to build a more robust and sustainable financial future.
Outputs:
- Repairs and restoration of Swanage Pier
- Refurbishment of an existing Grade 2 listed building
- New sources of income through high-quality catering and retail facilities, activities and events.
- New facilities, educational and events programmes will improve year-round tourism
- Providing opportunities for additional businesses to operate from the pier and designs include plans to create a new business unit on site
- Providing opportunities for the community to engage with local heritage and the marine environment, understanding the community’s role in their protection
Outcomes:
- 125,000 visitors annually
- 24 jobs created
- 115 volunteer positions
